Biographies
Gary Vallano, M.D., Medical Director
Dr. Vallano is the Medical Director of the Pace School Partial Hospitalization Program. In his 10 years at Pace, he has worked with administrators and direct service staff to improve the quality and scope of the mental health treatment services and their seamless integration with the educational program.
Dr. Vallano is a Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. He has received the Joseph Heidenkamp Child Psychiatry Award and the Allegheny County Community Citation of Merit. His articles on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have been published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Child Psychology, Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology and Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology. He has shared his expertise on the subject of ADHD as a noted lecturer and guest of local television and radio programs.
Since graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completing his internship and residency at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC), Dr. Vallano has held academic positions at WPIC, Allegheny Neuropsychiatric Institute, Allegheny General Hospital, Medical College of Pennsylvania and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. During that time period he was also a practicing psychiatrist in both in-patient and outpatient settings.
Dr. Vallano is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the Pittsburgh Regional Organization of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Among his many community service activities, Dr. Vallano is a volunteer faculty member of UPMC as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and he offered his professional services as a mental health counselor for the USAIR Flight #427 disaster.
