Julie’s Success Story
Julie was referred to Pace school in 3rd grade after previous placements in public school, Approved Private School (APS), inpatient psychiatric hospitalization and residential treatment. Like most students at Pace, Julie carries multiple diagnoses including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. These were exhibited through behaviors such as property destruction, distractibility, and aggression. She entered the Pace program nearly 2.5 years behind grade level. Her 2.5 years at Pace have lead to startling achievement in both academics and behaviors. She is now reading on grade level and only one year behind in math. When she started at Pace she only read 14 words per minute. She now reads 133 words per minute, exceeding the score to be a fluent reader. Her behaviors have also improved dramatically, decreasing to only one critical incident this year. Julie’s results are amazing, as are those of many other Pace students. It is the Pace School staff, support, interventions, and the student’s hard work that allows them to achieve these extraordinary successes.
