SEL is how children and adults learn to understand and manage emotions, set goals, show empathy for others, establish positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

  •  Defined by The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL)

5 Essential Skills Developed through SEL for success in school, career and life:

SEL skills

8 essential characteristics in the PLAID learning framework for developing SEL skills:

Gratitude, Respect, Responsibility, Curiosity, Empathy, Enthusiasm, Grit, Optimism

Teachers and staff use the PLAID framework to weave SEL and these eight elements into instruction and social activities. Instructional evidence-based practices are selected that deliver the academic content and help students develop and demonstrate the SEL characteristics.

Our trauma-informed practices and positive behavior intervention and supports create the school climate that encourages SEL development.

Helping students practice mindfulness and develop a Growth Mindset is at the root of SEL at Pace School.
